50 Shades of Appalachia Show, a new group show at the Johnson County Center for the Arts has a special opening on Friday, October 2 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at their Gallery on Main at 129 W. Main St, Mountain City, TN.
50 Shades of Appalachia is a color chart that echoes many, but certainly not all colors of local and regional favorites like Half Runners, Morning Fog, Fiddle, Creasy Greens, Goldenrod, and more. “These colors bring back so many memories for folks,” said Connie Moody, whose idea sparked this community project.
For this show, several of our local artists have created works that use one or more of the color names in the chart. Barbara Gerber has created a cut paper collage using “black bear”, and Cristy Dunn has painted “homemade biscuits and sourwood honey”.
T-shirts and posters will be available for purchase with the 50 Shades of Appalachia color chart on the front and the Arts Center’s logo on the sleeve at the gallery. Please join us and celebrate these colors and shades of home as summer comes to an end!
